Welcome to one of the most exciting new emergency medicine training programs in the country, built from the ground up with purpose, at one of New England’s premier academic medical centers.
It is my honor to introduce you to the Lahey Clinic Emergency Medicine Residency. Where You'll Train
Lahey Clinic is home to the only Level I Trauma Center north of Boston, serving hundreds of thousands of people across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Residents will train across a carefully designed network of clinical environments with direct access to robust medical school teaching opportunities and a cutting-edge research infrastructure. Located in Burlington, Massachusetts, just 12 miles northwest of Boston, our program offers the advantages of a world-class city and the benefits of suburban convenience.
The Emergency Medicine Residency at Lahey Clinic is a progressive four-year program with subspecialty tracks, built within a thriving academic ecosystem that combines the intellectual energy of a medical school campus with a clinical environment of exceptional depth and breadth. You'll train alongside faculty who are invested not just in your clinical development, but in your scholarly and academic growth, all while mastering a strong procedural foundation and the clinical judgment to thrive in any emergency medicine practice environment.

What portal should I use to apply?
We accept applications exclusively through the ResidencyCAS Portal. We do not accept applications via ERAS.
Are you participating in the NRMP Match?
Yes, all positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Main Residency Match.
What will the interview format look like?
All residency interviews are conducted virtually in alignment with national CORD recommendation standards to minimize travel burdens and inequity for applicants.
What is the standard shift length in the ED?
At our primary site (Lahey Clinic), core shifts are 9 hours long (8 hours of active clinical care followed by 1 hour dedicated to cleaning up documentation and safe patient handovers).
How are vacation blocks handled?
Residents receive 15 days of paid vacation per year, which are pre-scheduled into the annual 13-block matrix as a dedicated vacation block.
Are pediatric shifts longitudinal or block-based?
Both. You will have heavy dedicated block training at premier pediatric sites like Boston Children’s Hospital and UMass Memorial, complemented by longitudinal pediatric exposure during select core ED blocks.
What is the program’s policy on moonlighting?
In alignment with Institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) Policy, moonlighting is generally discouraged because training is a full-time commitment. However, senior residents (PGY-3 and PGY-4) in good academic standing who hold a full Massachusetts medical license may apply for written permission from the Program Director to engage in internal moonlighting.
Is there formal subspecialty backup?
Yes. As a major tertiary academic referral center and Level I Trauma hub, Lahey Clinic features comprehensive, 24/7 on-site subspecialty backup across all surgical, medical, and critical care departments.
